Rare Mid-Century Modern Sculptural Coffee Table by Peter Michael Adams, Signed
A rare and important coffee / cocktail table branded with the initials PMA. The wildly sculptural base supporting a pegged removable table top in a boomerang form. This item is in very good original condition.
Peter Micheal Adams’ (1946, US) work as a furniture designer and sculpturer is specialized on the material wood. Graduating at Harvard, he then followed an apprenticeship of fine furniture making in North Carolina. In 1984 he was called to the University of Arts in Tasmania, Australia where he lived and worked from that time onwards. He owns a property which he calls Windgrove. Here he lives and works surrounded by nature. The connection between human and nature always played a key role in his oeuvre. Adams always handcrafts the pieces by himself and takes great effort in time in each piece. Great role plays a big series of benches. As he says in his own words: “A bench is for two people. It allows dialogue.” Nowadays he focusses on sculptural items in different woods combine with natural stones.
