An unusual large and beautiful Chinese Coromandel screen from the late 1700s with a fabulous rosewood carved frame from the mid to late 1800s. The subject matter reminiscent of the times having, vignettes of aristocrats and military figures in pavilions and various nature scenes. Superbly carved and painted details against an old gold lacquered background. A screen of this impressive size and in such good state of preservation is a rare find. The back is decorated with geese and wild grasses and millet, a favourite food. The screen tells the story of the three Chinese Kingdoms. It is mounted in an elaborately carved rosewood frame from the late 19th century. This one of a kind decorative screen or room divider can be used as one large piece or can simply be removed by the pin and hinge to form four equal double panels. Each panel measures 19.5 inches in width.
