Pair Large Mid-Century French Parchment Commodes, Chests or Cabinets, 1950s
William Billy Haines Attributed Cabinets. A large and impressive pair of commodes or cabinets in the manner of Billy Haines dating from the 1950s. The swirl and curved gilt metal base supporting a pair of large 15 inch deep drawers with heavy bronze drawer pulls each having locks. The case covered in its original parchment which has stood the test of time quite well. Minor scratches and small spots of wear as must would desire in a unique pair of cabinets of this age and quality.
Haines and Shields began a successful dual career as interior designers and antique dealers. Among their early clients were friends such as Joan Crawford, Gloria Swanson, Carole Lombard, Marion Davies, and George Cukor.
