19th Century Giltwood Settee, Canape Pr Fauteuils, Louis XV, Durand, Livingroom. All in a New Handwoven Scalamandre Upholstery.

A charming Louis XV trio comprised of a stunningly carved 19th century solid wooden giltwood settee, loveseat and a pair of armchairs from the French house of Durand, unsigned. All bear finely carved floral and wreath motifs with Greek key corners with elegant cabriole legs. Upholstery in need of repair. Priced accordingly at a fraction of the true price. Frames are strong and sturdy.

Settee and chairs also listed separately; all in a new Scalamandre Fabric.

Gervais-Maximilien-Eugene Durand (French, 1839 – c. 1920) was best known for producing high quality furniture after important 18th Century makers including Adam Weisweiler and Jean-Henri Riesener. He established his firm Maison Durand in 1870 and won a silver medal in the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889. After his son Frederic-Louis joined the firm in 1890 at which point the firm changed its name to ‘Durand et Fils’. In 1920, upon Gervais Durand’s death, Frederic-Louis took over the business and continued until 1934.
